Santiago Alba Rico (born 1960) is a Spanish writer, philosopher and essayist. He studied Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid and, in the 1980s, worked as a scriptwriter for the legendary Spanish TV programme “La bola de cristal” on Televisión Española. For many years he has lived in the Arab world, especially in Cairo and Tunis, and has taught language, literature and cultural theory in various institutions. His work focuses on the anthropological dimension of capitalism and on the relationship between the body and the world in contemporary market societies, often drawing on mythology and literature. He has published more than twenty books on politics, philosophy and literature, including essays such as Las reglas del caos, La ciudad intangible, Capitalismo y nihilismo, Leer con niños and Ser o no ser (un cuerpo), and he is a regular contributor to media outlets like Público, CTXT, eldiario.es and others.
