Bozorg Alavi

  • Bozorg Alavi (1904–1997) was an influential Iranian novelist, writer, and political intellectual, regarded as one of the leading figures of modern Persian literature in the 20th century. Born in Tehran and educated in Germany, he became a founding member of the Tudeh Party of Iran and spent many years in exile after the 1953 coup because of his political views.
  • Alavi authored several landmark works of modern Persian fiction, most notably the novel “Her Eyes” (Cheshm'hā'yash), which is considered a classic of Iranian literature, as well as collections such as “The Portmanteau”, “Prison Papers” and “Fifty-Three Persons”. His writing is distinguished by its psychological depth, strong humanism, and bold engagement with themes of freedom, oppression, and social and political life in Iran.
