Abdelbassit Bani

  • Abdelbassit Bani is an Algerian novelist and architect whose fiction weaves together human social and psychological dimensions. He first gained wide recognition when he won the Algerian President’s Ali Maachi Prize for Young Creators novel category in 2021 for his book “Matloua Bread and Love” a work that established him as one of the most promising young voices in contemporary Algerian literature. His writings include the novels “Matloua Bread and Love” “Weld Naima A Black Seed Messenger of Absurdity” “Dar Louiza” “The Suicide Shop” and “Ballouta The Acorn” as well as the short story collection “A Man for Sale in Installments” and the book “Remains of a Man” in addition to several plays and scripts for short films. Bani is a regular presence at book fairs and literary festivals across Algeria and is regarded as one of the active young authors contributing to the renewal of the Algerian novel.
